I think you will find that there is no language that can quite express what the magic behind a plaster cast really is.

A cast hides without hiding – body contours are suddenly air brushed into smooth, flowing lines. Where there was an ankle with its edges and hollows, bends and kinks there is suddenly only a suggestion of contour, smooth; just hinting the outline.

And of course where there was soft, silky skin you now find a hard, unyielding surface covering the warm, living body.

And lastly – the cast takes away the function of the body. It is somewhat the only allowable public bondage device. A cast can take away the ability to take, to lift, to write or handle anything in any way. A cast can take away the ability to stand. That is taking a lot! Standing upright is an important bit making us human. If you suddenly have to be seated in a wheelchair or even only crutch along you are much more vulnerable.

Do that to a girl and most blokes hormones go off in a spin just at the sight of her.

So – many words and still no proper description what makes the spark in a plaster cast: disability-light? Acceptable-bondage? Freedom from pressure to perform, to function? A trigger for our must-care feelings?

All of the above and more!
